Hazardous Area Verification Dossier
Verification Dossiers: Supporting Safe and Compliant Installations
A Hazardous Area Verification Dossier is a set of living documents that demonstrate the compliance of electrical equipment and installations within hazardous environments.
This dossier is essential to ensure that any installation meets the requirements outlined in the AS/NZS 60079 series of standards, as well as any other plant-specific regulations or certification conditions. It serves as a formal record confirming that all installed equipment and systems meet safety and compliance obligations.
By law, a verification dossier must be prepared for every hazardous area installation. It must be either kept on the premises or securely stored off-site. If stored off-site, a document must be left at the installation site clearly indicating the name of the owner(s) and the location of the verification dossier. This ensures that copies can be accessed when needed.
The verification dossier is also critical when modifying or extending an existing installation. It contains important technical information and special conditions, such as:
Electrical drawings
Electrical loop diagrams
Intrinsically safe system concepts and calculations
Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
Classification documents
And other supporting compliance documentation
These documents are vital for ensuring ongoing safety, traceability, and regulatory compliance in hazardous area electrical work.
